Electrogenic Introduces Affordable Drop-in EV Conversion Kit for Classic Mini Models

Electrogenic, a specialist in electric vehicle (EV) conversions, has developed a drop-in kit specifically designed for classic Mini models. The kit includes a 60-horsepower motor and a 20-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, offering a range of 80 miles for urban driving.

With a focus on making conversions accessible to a wide range of customers, Electrogenic aims to develop kits that can be easily installed by any qualified mechanic. The company’s goal is to keep daily drivers on the road by providing affordable and user-friendly EV conversion options.

While Electrogenic is widely recognized for its Land Rover Defender conversions, which transform diesel SUVs into EVs on a modest budget, the company is expanding its offerings to cater to a broader market as plug-and-play EV conversions gain popularity.

Steve Drummond, Co-Founder of Electrogenic, stated, “We’ve converted a number of beautiful Minis over the years to electric drive, and have seen significant demand for a solution that’s both easy to fit and budget-friendly. Our new drop-in kit meets those requirements perfectly; it’s cost-effective and simple to install, yet still delivers superb electric performance, thanks to our latest-generation EV powertrain tech.”

The drop-in cassette-style conversion kit by Electrogenic includes a water-cooled electric motor with 60 horsepower and 100 lb-ft of torque, along with a 20-kWh battery that fits into the engine bay on a replacement front subframe. This design ensures that the handling characteristics of the classic Mini remain intact. A charge port is integrated into a replacement front grille, eliminating the need for complicated high-voltage plumbing.

Similar to the Defender kit, Electrogenic’s conversion kit for the classic Mini is designed to be compatible with existing hardware. This means it can be installed by almost any mechanic, with provisions made for accelerator and dashboard wiring.

With a range of 80 miles in urban driving conditions, the classic Mini equipped with Electrogenic’s conversion kit becomes an attractive option for zero-emission zones in cities like London. The company aims to offer the kit in the UK at a price of £15,000 (approximately $18,950), and there are plans to make it available for export, potentially reaching Mini owners in other countries.

Drummond added, “It turns the iconic classic Mini into an ideal modern city machine, one that’s perfect for zipping about town cleanly and reliably—and sure to bring a smile to the faces of drivers and pedestrians alike.”

This affordable conversion kit for classic Mini models will expand Electrogenic’s portfolio, which has previously focused on conversions for higher-priced vehicles.
