The Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven: A Modern Take on the C111

Introducing the modern iteration of the Mercedes-Benz C111, the Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven. This contemporary design exercise embraces its vintage inspiration, drawing from the distinctive styling of the C111 while showcasing a cutting-edge powertrain. Departing from the unconventional engine choices of the past C111 models, the One-Eleven looks towards the future with its electric powertrain.

At the core of the One-Eleven is what could potentially be the future of high-performance Mercedes-Benz powertrains. This concept features a lightweight axial-flux motor, developed by Yasa, which reportedly weighs only a third of a similarly powerful electric motor. Supporting this motor is a new battery system with liquid-cooled cylindrical cells and a reportedly innovative chemistry.

While it remains to be seen if this new battery chemistry will deliver as expected, Mercedes-Benz confirms that the axial-flux motor will be a crucial component of the upcoming powertrain for the performance segment.

Beyond showcasing Mercedes-Benz’s electric powertrain vision, this audacious concept serves as a visionary design study, providing a glimpse into the potential aesthetics of future performance cars. The gullwing-door sports car reimagines the iconic wedge shape that made the C111 models so captivating. Complementing the striking exterior design is a futuristic interior that blends premium materials with a traditional automotive layout. The One-Eleven concept even offers a lounge mode, seamlessly integrating the interior into a spacious lounge-like setting.

Sadly, it’s unlikely that the One-Eleven concept will be available for purchase anytime soon, if at all. Just like the limited-production Project One, which seemed like a distant dream but eventually made its way to production, Mercedes-Benz plans to transform this design study into a series of limited-production accessories. The One-Eleven collection will include sunglasses, hoodies, a weekend bag, and an iPhone case. While these items will be more affordable than the car itself, their limited-production nature suggests that they won’t come cheap when they become available on the website in August.
